When you back up one AHV VM, one license instance is consumed from the Veeam Backup & Replication license. If you are using any instance-based ( Veeam Universal Licensing ) license on your Veeam Backup & Replication, you don't need to install any additional licenses.

An AHV VM is considered protected if it has a restore point created in the last 31 days. VMs protected by Veeam Backup for Nutanix AHV are licensed per protected VM. For terminology and general information about Veeam licensing, see the Veeam Licensing Policy article. This guide provides information only on specifics of Veeam licensing for Veeam Backup for Nutanix AHV. Without a valid license, you can only create snapshots and restore AHV VMs from snapshots. If the license is not valid or there are no available license instances, backup jobs of Veeam Backup for Nutanix AHV fail. To use Veeam Backup for Nutanix AHV, you must have a valid Veeam License installed on the Veeam Backup & Replication server.
